According to Reuters, Taiwanese authorities have approved Pegatron Corp's plan to invest another US$101 million in Vietnam - a major manufacturing partner of Apple, Microsoft and Sony.
In order to make offshore investments, Taiwanese companies must obtain approval from Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The agency said the investment in Pegatron Corp's subsidiary, Pegatron Vietnam, manufactures and sells computers, peripherals, communication equipment and electronic components.
Pegatron has not shared any other information about this deal with the media.
In its Annual Report 2020, Pegatron Group also mentioned about continuing to expand production facilities to Vietnam and India to meet drastic changes in the supply chain.
As Investment Newspaper Online - Baodautu.vn reported in September 2020, Pegatron's 1 billion USD investment in Vietnam has the first project in Hai Phong (with a total capital of about 19 million USD) and the second project is expected to be about 481 million USD in Deep C Industrial Park (in Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone) to produce electronic equipment (civil electronics, computers and computer peripherals, communication equipment, electronic components, circuit boards).
When put into operation, the project is expected to create jobs for 22,500 direct workers and contribute to the budget revenue of about 100 billion VND/year. Products of the Project will be supplied to Microsoft, Sony, Lenovo, Apple.
And maybe in the period 2025-2026, Pegatron continues to invest in the third project, with a scale of 500 million USD.
Foxconn, Winstron and Pegatron are the three largest iPhone manufacturers in China and India.
According to the list of top 200 supplier partners in 2020 announced by Apple last week, there are 21 suppliers with factories in Vietnam. This number has increased by 150% from the previous two years.
